ABOUT US

Jørik Nyborg (founder and CEO)

Jørik was born in Kongsvinger, Norway. He started playing guitar aged 9 and progressed very rapidly. Alongside his guitar studies he learnt Hammond Organ from local cabaret legend Lars Bjørnson. 7 years later, Jørik joined local band Ikkje Stort. Ikkje played many local festivals in and around Kongsvinger and in 2004 got signed to now defunct local label, Butterbush. Whilst with the label they released three singles: Minnet Om Minne, På Jakt Etter Manglende Biter & Bor I En Kjeks.

Jørik started writing for media in 2009 and has a number of credits to his name including a radio ad for Porsgrunn Skip Hire and the music to a short film (My Wedding - directed by Sofie Nyborg, 2011).

Erik Larsen (founder and COO)

Erik grew up on his parents farm in Steinkjer. From an early age he was interested in farm animals and always had a desire to explore them further. However, with the advent of the internet, Erik became increasingly influenced by media technologies. He started making short films in 2007 and his nature documentary 'Min fisk spiser som en svane, min svan spiser som en bjørn, min bjørn spiser som en sumo bryter' almost won bronze at the 2008 Golden Labyrinth film festival. Erik composed the soundtrack too, his first experience of making his own music. The whole process opened up new creative horizons for Eric: "It gave me an early appreciation of the immense possibilities of construction kits. I quickly realised you can knock up a perfectly good track in no time at all and with very little effort! This can only be win/win for new composers who wish to bypass the whole learning thing...". And it was this experience that inspired him to become involved in music in a professional capacity. Erik met Jørik on a 4x4 off-road day and by chance they got talking about music and soon realised they shared a common philosophy in it being available for all, for free. It was out of this meeting the early idea for QualityFreeMusic.com began.

Geert Sommer*

Geert is just a wild and crazy guy! When he is not snowboarding in Ringkollen, he is training for extreme 'snow-a-thons'. But is it any wonder? Geert's auntie Dag competed in the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, achieving 46th place in the 15km cross country skiing. But it is not all fun and games. Geert is responsible for the smooth running of QFM.com's servers, firmly believing in a robust back end. In addition to this, he coded the search engine and online portal (which will go live shortly). If there are any technical issues we simply go to Geert. It is no surprise he needs a relaxing hobby and outside of working for us he is constantly honing homemade organic soup recipes for his forthcoming book Soup From The Woods

*Interesting fact: Geert is a distant relative of the late Jim Bowen.

Lasse Ladd

Lasse is the newest member of the QFM team. He is our mastering guru and studio wizz. Before we upload a track to our master database Lasse sprinkles a little magical fairy dusting of BLW (brick wall limiting), ensuring your track is at least as loud, if not louder, than any of the other 'major' music libraries. Overall volume is key to good usage and Lasse is quite forthright on the subject: "As TV manufacturers are more attuned to limiting the volume produced by their products in order to prevent hearing loss, it was essential for us as mastering engineers to compensate for that by maximizing the volume of the tracks we put out. It is a war we simply must win!" With this in mind, it is no surprise that Lasse was one of the first in the business to recognize that distortion is the new reverse cymbal. Before working for us Lasse was producing various acts around Gjæsingen and indeed had local radio airplay with Edvind Wolff & Nina's Lyden Av Noen Trær Som Faller (selling 54 copies in Gjæsingen alone). Lasse will be responsible for metatagging your tracks; this is a highly specialized job whereby key phrases - such as 'American Beauty like' / 'ZImmer like' / Jaws like' / 'Star Wars like' - are attached to the track's metadata ensuring programme makers find relevant music easily when searching.

Markus

He is so cool they named him once! Markus is in charge of website design, social media and SEO optimisation. Quite a list of responsibilities for one so young! But then, there is nothing Markus doesn't know about the music industry. His early experience as in-house DJ at the local Premier Inn gave Markus a solid grounding. Since then he has developed a travelling disco ('Knight Fever' Tel: +47 35 57 33 992) which has now 'rocked' over 17 weddings and 3 funerals. Markus's SEO skills are legendary and it is no coincidence that we rank highly on Google for the search term 'http://www.qualityfreemusic.com'

Tracy Bradley

Tracy hails from Keighley, Yorkshire, UK. She is residing here for a couple of years whilst her husband (pacey midfielder Steve), completes a loan spell for Mjøndalen United. Tracy now runs the office and deals with the many enquiries we get in her friendly, efficient way. Tracy is a fan of the great outdoors and in fact, Geert has been teaching her to snowboard for over a year now. Considering the intensity and regularity of the lessons it is a little surprising she is not getting the hang of it but Tracy insists: "I enjoy it and it keeps me occupied whilst Steve's away training. Geert is such an understanding teacher". Tracy hit the headlines in the UK in 2003 when she sellotaped 11 omelettes to her face to raise money for the local rotary club. The picture - and story of a hospital stay brought on by acute egg poisoning - subsequently appeared in the Keighley Chronicle under the headline 'It's no Yolk for Tracy'.
